Royal Experience Recipients Receive Aid with Summer Internships
Allison Northrop of Newville, participated in the University’s Royal Experience Summer Internship Program as an intern at Scranton Fringe Festival in Scranton.
For many college students an internship is the first step toward securing a job after graduation, but an unpaid internship can be a hurdle for some students.
The Royal Experience Summer Internship Program provided 16 University of Scranton students, selected from a competitive pool, a stipend of up to $4,000 to ease the burden of accepting a meaningful unpaid internship for the summer of 2017. The program is funded by the philanthropy of the University’s Parents’ Executive Council and the donations of alumni and friends of the University.

Mark Miller of Archbald, a sophomore marketing and business administration major at Scranton, worked as a national sales and marketing intern at SMI in Charlotte, North Carolina. He created social media audience reports to examine platform follower growth on each of SMI’s social media accounts and assisted with the execution of the new NASCAR Trackside Live entertainment stage, along with other various activities.
“My internship at SMI will help me to learn about another facet in the sport and will connect me with professionals in the sport that I hope to work in one day,” Miller said in his blog.
Nicholas Constantinou of Scranton is a freshman computer engineering major at the University. He worked as a web developer intern at Cresco Data in Singapore. He learned Python, a web development language, and has worked with clients directly.
“This experience will heavily impact my career path as well as having the international experience that has become increasingly important to employers,” Constantinou said in his blog.
Caitlin Tulaney of Mechanicsburg, a sophomore human resources studies major at Scranton, worked as a special events intern at The American Lung Association in Chicago, Illinois. Tulaney worked with the development team and focused on making people more aware of and educated about lung health. She assisted with volunteer coordination for all fundraising events and assisted with research and identification of prospective partners for events, along with other various activities.
“I think that this experience will positively impact my career path because I am exposed to the incredible mission that the Lung Association has and how they work with the community to create a better place to live,” Tulaney said in her blog.
In addition to Miller, Constantinou and Tulaney, other students who participated in the Royal Experience Summer Internship program are:
Paula Awuku of Clarks Summit, a sophomore political science major who is an intern at Lackawanna Pro Bono in Scranton;
Kerry Buckhaults of East Meadow, New York, a sophomore psychology and neuroscience major who is an intern at The University of Scranton’s Neuroscience Department;
Elizabeth Chrostowski of Warrington, a junior marketing major who is an intern at SEO Digital Group in Philadelphia;
Delia Gavin of Dunmore, a junior counseling and human services major who is an intern at the Public Defender’s Office in Scranton;
Adam Drury of Chatham, New Jersey, a junior strategic communication major who is an intern at LSEO in Wilkes-Barre;
Julia Giaimo of Warminster, a sophomore exercise science major who is an intern at Barwis Methods in Port St. Lucie, Florida;
Everett Minchew of Marlton, New Jersey, a sophomore exercise science major who is an intern at The Training Room Sports & Orthopedic Therapy in Cherry Hill, New Jersey;
John McDowell of Ridgewood, New Jersey, a junior business administration major who is an intern at Presidio in Iselin, New Jersey;
Allison Northrop of Newville, a sophomore strategic communication major who is an intern at Scranton Fringe Festival in Scranton;
Alexander Pinarreta of New Bedford, Massachusetts, a junior computer engineering major who is an intern at Massachusetts Dept. of Transportation in Boston, Massachusetts;
Sarah Ricupero of Canadensis, a sophomore neuroscience and biomathematics major who is an intern at The University of Scranton’s Neuroscience Department;
Brittany Ruch of Nazareth, junior a forensic chemistry major who is an intern at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office in Allentown;
Allison Santoro of Buena, New Jersey, a junior psychology major who is an intern at U.S. Marshals Service in Philadelphia.
Sarah Ricupero of Canadensis, was among the 16 University students to participate in The University of Scranton’s Royal Experience Summer Internship Program which provided a stipend of up to $4,000 to students pursing a meaningful, but unpaid summer internship. She worked as an intern at the University’s Neuroscience Department.
Kerry Buckhaults of East Meadow, New York, also participated in the University’s Royal Experience Summer Internship Program as an intern at the University’s Neuroscience Department.
